Douglas Bader lost both legs in an aeroplane crash. He showed determination and great courage, learning to walk on artificial legs without crutches. In 1945 he was made group Captain and decorated for his heroic roles as an R.A.F. Fighter pilot in World War 2.
Motif:
The blue background symbolises his lifelong association with the air. The white motif suggests the trails left by a jet and also his constant striving onwards to excel and overcome his handicap.
