Helen Keller House
At 18 months Hellen Keller contracted a fever which left her deaf & blind. With the help of her teacher, she was taught to overcome these problems and learn to speak, read and write English as well as German & French. Her example and personality have been a source of inspiration to the handicapped and to those who are not.
The green background symbolises her vital interest in life. The motif suggests both the cochlea or the ear and an eye – the two sense Helen lacked.
It also symbolises that great things can be achieved from a small beginning. Like a pebble in a pool.
