World Autism Awareness Day was held on 2 April 2016 and extends throughout the month of April. Every year, autism organisations around the world celebrate the day with unique fundraising and awareness-raising events, to draw attention to the increasing prevalence and high rates of autism in children all over the world.
A special assembly and Civvies Day was held on 15 April to commemorate this day. Learners and staff wore blue as “blue” signifies the high ratio of boys who have autism.
The “Light it Up Blue” campaign is a global initiative where iconic buildings such as the Sydney Opera House, The Louvre and the Great Sphinx turned their lights blue in commemoration of Autism-. Open Air School did our bit too!
Thank you to parents, learners and staff for your support.
